Melissa Kitson was inspired from an early age to create. She developed an appreciation of the delicate and finer things in life and immersed herself in a lifestyle centered upon creativity and innovation. This evolved into a particular skill, talent and interest in jewellery design. Completely self-taught, jewellery design came naturally to Melissa.
Whilst still completing her high school certificate Melissa was encouraged to enter the business world and did so in 2004 when Mel K Designs first appeared in Western Australian stores. Following high school Melissa completed a Bachelor of Contemporary Arts majoring in Fashion at Edith Cowan University in Perth, Western Australia. This formalised what was originally an all-consuming hobby, allowing her to gain skills that would enable her to develop and grow Mel K Designs.
In 2008, Melissa was one of 25 up and coming designers, selected from all over Australia, to showcase their collections at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. Mel K Designs statement jewellery impressed the interstate market with Melissa gaining new accounts nationally.
Since then she exhibited at the Bags and Accessories Fair in Melbourne and has been a regular stallholder at Unwrapped: The Market Place and Made on The Left Markets in Perth.
Melissa is excited to announce in April 2012 Mel K Designs will showcase her statement Summer 2012/2013 jewellery collection at the very first Savior Faire Perth Fashion Week.
Mel K Designs unique statement jewellery is created using an array of materials including pearls, semi precious stones, distinctive charms and a fusion of textured chain in different sizes and shades. Her creative flair for combining unique materials with stylised objects allows her pieces to make a statement.
In addition to her collections, Mel K Designs also features one-off pieces. Melissa’s love of vintage enables her to create these individual pieces incorporating the old and new. Should you wish to update a favourite antique piece Melissa can offer a bespoke design service on your behalf.
“Many of my pieces focus on something you might not have seen before and something that stands out and becomes the feature of an outfit.”
